1. Connect and activate
Install the GitHub App on only your dedicated FileGRC repositories. Sign in as the personal repository owner or GitHub administrator for the selected repositories. Activate billing from the dashboard, at $19.99 per connected repository per month.
2. Start with email
Keep Person emails current in your FileGRC workspace. Email reminders use those owners. The hosted service evaluates Git changes and upcoming policy dates; your local app remains where you review and complete work.
3. Add Slack if useful
Connect Slack from the dashboard, then choose Link people. Review suggested email matches and confirm the Git commit. Invite FileGRC to your program channel before using it for fallback or escalation.
Set timing, channel IDs, quiet hours, and escalation in .filegrc/hosted-notifications.json. Person mappings live in Core's .filegrc/notifications.json. Email-only policy does not send Slack reminders.
Show a starter Slack policy
Copy this into .filegrc/hosted-notifications.json, replace the channel ID, and commit it. Get the ID from the channel details in Slack. Email defaults already work without this file.

When something changes
Use Record policy event for hiring, departures, incidents, and vendor changes. The handoff shows how to record the real event in your local workspace. Weekly prompts are optional and off by default.
